Friday Quick 5

1. I'm sitting in front of my window, enjoying the view.  Green leaves on the trees, bright pink blooms on the redbud tree, a nice breeze (for now) coming through, tasty Greek yogurt drizzled with maple syrup.  The quiet of naptime makes the moment almost idyllic.  It brings the daily struggle up: naptime comes, and it's my best time to get a lot of work done.  But the peace and quiet is so appealing, I just want to sit and soak it in.  Yesterday I busted my tail to clean the kitchen (and almost overheated in the lack of air conditioning).  Today, I think I'm going to take it a little easier.  Maybe do some prepping to switch out Simon's clothes, since it insists on being so hot.  Organize in my room.  No mopping, wiping down cabinetry or scrubbing away at the sink.

2. Speaking of scrubbing down the sink, Borax is my new cleaning friend.  Seriously, the kitchen sink has been yellowish since we moved in.  Mr. Clean Magic Eraser pads have helped lighten the yellow from egg yolk to lemon sorbet, but never to white.  Yesterday, after a good soak in a solution of water, Super Washing Soda and Borax, and then a scrub with a little more Borax, the sink is now a respectable antique white.  I was ecstatic.  I took a picture.

3.  Speaking of hot weather, how's the weather in your part of the world. This week we have been averaging twenty degrees above normal for this time of year.  It's been like June.  We've made it so far without air conditioning (though the kitchen has been warm and unbearable, such as yesterday).  This weekend I think we'll be asking the girl downstairs to turn on the air.  They're predicting practically 90.  Ridiculous.  Seriously, ree-dic-uuu-lous!  I have fears for this summer.  Regardless of air or no air in the apartment, the kitchen has none.  If it doesn't cool off for the rest of spring, this may be the last time that room is mopped until fall.

4.  Our sonogram was Wednesday.  Oh, yes, yes, it was.  If you haven't seen it on Facebook, we are expecting a little boy!  We've named him Levi James.  I am hoping for a nursery of greens, dark blue, and browns, and filled with owls.  We are trying to help Eliza understand that another little gentleman is on the way.  The baby in Mommy's tummy is a boy.  She's fine with that, since the baby in her own tummy is a girl (according to her).  She knows there will be two "bubbies".  But she thinks there will be two "sissies".  Hopefully someday.

5.  The only good thing about this warm weather?  Getting the decaff grounds to make cold-brewed iced coffee.  I'm not a summer fan these days.  (Maybe if the days were like today, with highs in the low 80s, rather than highs closer to the triple digits...)  But iced coffee makes the heat a little more bearable.  That and strawberry limeades from Sonic.
