1. I've started a prayer book project. One of the things that I have been pondering a lot lately has led me to the necessary conclusion that I need to be in deep prayer over the matter. The effort to "be in deep prayer" has led me to the realization that a regular, disciplined, devoted prayer time is not one of my strengths. I am very good at praying "at various times and in various ways" throughout my day. I follow Nehemiah's example in the first chapter of that book quite well. But James example with the camel knees? Not so much. This little prayer book is based off one I found about praying Scripture back to God. I like that it teaches a prayer structure and even provides a cycle for lifting up prayer concerns. I am hoping going through it will teach me discipline and purpose in prayer but also about the devotion of prayer itself. We'll see how the project goes.
2. Right now, I am having trouble transferring to my phone without dowloading every single one onto my computer. My current solution until I get my husband to sit down with me and show me what I'm doing wrong is to upload them via the blogger app on my phone. Today, I thought I would be clever and upload all the pics before I started writing. Bad. Idea. It was a huge headache to move them around to where I want them, to get my text going in between... I've never had that much trouble! Maybe it's time to start learning some html and coding and whatever you call it. I need to set up a computer class with my husband.
3. This is my beautiful girl in her Easter dress. Have I told you lately how much she's growing up? We just finished potty training. I think we can say we've finished: since we started, except the second day of the learning process where there were LOTS of accidents, we've only had one day when she was not completely dry. I occasionally ask her if she needs to use the restroom, but otherwise, she just tells me. And when she says she doesn't need to go, she really doesn't need to go. This tells me a few things: a) Eliza really was ready to potty train, and b) we picked the right method for her. That second day it all caught on (after maybe the fifth accident on the floor...); and she learned very fast! It's very strange having one out of diapers, and sometimes it's just as much work (making sure she goes before heading out for errands, anyone?). It's a good thing, though. We don't want three in diapers...
4. I can't believe how much these guys have taken over our household! I've used them as an illustration when teaching/sharing. They are very effective bribery for my two year old. (Not that we ever bribe; let's say incentive.) Eliza has a plushy Perry that she sleeps with; she received Phinease, Ferb, and Perry Pez dispensers as potty training rewards thanks to a good friend. A dance session with these two guys is sure to pick up any slump during the day. A new episode is a family affair for us. And now they will make owies more exciting. I never thought I'd allow my children to become "walking advertisements", but then I became a parent. If they could sell veggies cut in the shape of Phineas' and Ferb's faces, I would totally buy them!
5. This is my little guy. Have I told you he's one now? It's so hard to believe. He's walking and babbling (no words besides Mama and Dada), and that smile is as irresistible as ever. He's recently discovered that he can help pick up, rather than pull all the toys out directly after a tidy-up. He's currently very fond of his tooth brush, even if he doesn't like having his teeth brushed. He's very, very fond of his sister. He likes to follow her around, babbles back to the things she says to him, and can't wait for her to get up from naptime. Sometimes that means he'll go in and wake her up... He loves to dance while she loves to sing. I hope they'll always be friends. While I'm thinking about starting a tot school/preschool with Eliza this fall (very informally), I'm collecting activities Simon can do, too. Not just things to keep him occupied, but to help him develop motor skills and learn as well. He's a pretty clever boy: he has figured out various ways to climb into his sister's bed, and unhooked the baby gate from the wall, and gotten into things I didn't think he'd be able to. He's one to watch!
I leave you with another view of my prayer journal. Not because it's pretty, but because it's kind of pretty important to me. I want to cultivate a vibrant prayer life; know that you, dear reader, are a part of it.
